The house is nice and clean and there's cider simmering on the stove. The table has a small buffet setup with curry and make-your-own-riceballs.

With how cozy the house is, it'd be hard to guess that four people could have ever lived comfortably here, especially when two of them were young boys. There's a big bed with a blue pillow and a dresser with a mirror, a scrap of red cloth, and a little blue shoe.

Outside, Wess, Lighter, and Fuel are all waiting with Boney and the sheep. There's a fence, a doghouse, and a small stable.

Each person is easy to tell from the others. Wess is clearly the oldest, somewhat short with white, sparse hair. Lighter is tall and muscular, stubble on his chin and a 2x4 on his shoulder. Fuel looks to be about the same size as Lucas, the light still in his young eyes. All three are bundled up, with Fuel running around with Boney.

"Welcome to my house," Lucas says as he brings everybody in.

"Mr. Fassad...that's the guy who was pulling some rather unpleasant deals, right?" Beauford looks towards the worrying laughter as well a moment, frowning.

"Ouch. I'm Enzo. I'm, uh," he lowers his voice so the natives can't overhear, "usually not human, so I won't look the same in Milliways."

"Yeah, but we better keep it quiet, at least around Fassad," Wess says discreetly. "He already knows we're on to him and that's bad enough."

Boney romps out in front with Fuel and Lucas close behind.

"Mister Isaac lives over here," Lucas says, pointing out a nearby house. "Enzo wanted to come over to see him, right?"

"...That's just a fat sack of crap no matter what world it happens in." Beauford rasps sagely, then fingers a spot on his side through his clothes.

"It's not right to do that to someone who saves lives on a regular basis."

Dinah nods, agreement, but she's looking sideways at Beauford now, her head slightly tilted. Her gaze drops to the spot on his side, then up to his face.

For a few seconds she's so focused on questions she's not going to ask that she forgets to say anything at all.

Beauford glances up in time to catch the look she's giving his side, and offers a wry smile.

He's got a good guess as to what some of those unasked questions are.

"Beauford, nice to meet you Enzo." Beauford nods and winks. "I'll keep that in mind."

In a more normal voice: "So, where do you work? And can you get comp for that?"

So he probably understands why she doesn't ask them.

Instead she smiles back. "It's still kinda hard explaining to my friends in Milliways why I don't know my own best friends' real names."

"Especially the ones that comes from places that don't have superheroes in them?" Beauford half-asks, right now he's thinking about how he had to explain things about his world to Zak and Mara. "Like trying to explain a computer to a guy who comes from a world with nothing tech beyond steel-age weaponry."

"Got a little bit of compensation for it, Lilly promised to cover all my shifts and give me half the tips since we're mostly there to make the drinks and be a pretty face." Beauford smiles. "My night job is tending bar at a nightclub in downtown Seattle. Sometimes I help serve the food too."

"If he's in," Enzo says casually.

"Hmm. I think I've seen you tending at Milliways, too, haven't I?"

"He probably is," Fuel says, going up to knock on the door.

"Don't cause any trouble now, kids," Lighter calls.

The door creaks open and a man, presumably Isaac, steps out.

"Huh? What's going on, everyone?" he asks, curious. Then he spots Lighter and waves.

"My friend Enzo here," Lucas says, gesturing to Enzo, "He heard about your Happy Box and he wanted to check it out. Can he have a look?"

"Oh sure," Isaac says with a nod. "I don't even know what to do with it. But I got some work to do, so be quick."

Enzo thanks him and steps inside, looking around for anything particularly happy. Or boxlike.

There are a couple of box-like things in Isaac's sparse home. One of them is even the box Lighter had mentioned before that once held the Happy Box but is now filled with firewood.

The Happy Box itself is pink and appears to have a green screen. It occasionally flickers but it's not displaying anything. In the bottom right-hand corner just under the screen, there is the insignia of the Pigmask Army.

"Yeh, I grab a Happy Hour when I can to earn a little extra cash. Never hurts to have a little nestegg for emergency-whatever."

Enzo's first thought is Oh, a TV!, but when he has a closer look he starts to second-guess it. It's roughly monitor-like, true, but not only is there no output, there don't seem to be any controls. What's the use of a TV that doesn't receive any stations?

"Is there a remote or something?"

"Remote?" Isaac asks. "Like, far away?"

"That's true," says a kid who's never had to seriously worry about money in his life.

"Um, sort of. A remote control? A... smaller thing with buttons on it? Anything like that?"

"I don't think so. I made sure the box was empty before I started putting my firewood in it."

Isaac shrugs in curiosity.

And remotes usually match the appliances they go to, and it'd be hard to mislay anything that colour, no matter how deep your sofa cushions are.

"You mean that's it?! This is what everyone's so crazy about?"

"The fellow with the monkey said it'd make me happy, so I thought I'd give it a shot," Isaac explains. "I don't really feel different, I guess. Is that what you wanted?"
