The sunlight streamed through his window and woke up Lucas with its brilliance. He yawned and stretched his arms up over his head before hopping out of bed. Best if he got to Boney and the sheep and take care of their breakfast before his own.

He had his hand curved around the doorknob when he could almost swear he heard a voice.

Are you planning to play in your pajamas?

“I guess they can wait until I get dressed,” he tells himself and he returns to his room.

It's not long before he has his clothes and shoes on, along with a quick glance at the dresser to make sure the red cloth and small blue shoe were still in place. He looked in the mirror on the wall nearby and his hand reached for his brush. Just before he touched it, he stopped himself.

Is that my silly hair monster?

Mom, no! Stop!

Oh no, I'm gonna get my silly hair monster!

A faint smile tugs at his lips before he grasps the brush and carefully goes through his blond hair.

Lookin' handsome?

“Lookin' handsome...” he softly tells himself.

He goes out and, once making sure the sheep are taken care of, fetches Boney for their walk. They pass a gawker, come to look at the famous Tazmily Lightning House. Lucas has long since given up on rebuilding the shed and, in times of dire weather, lets what few sheep he has bunk down with him in the house.

Lucas's walk proved oddly fruitful. He heard some rumors going around about the band DCMC and their new bassist Lucky. Seems a lot of people think he looks like Duster. It gave him a lot to think about as he made his way to his mother's memorial.

When he got there, Flint was already at the grave.

“Dad!” Lucas calls and rushes to give him a hug that is returned.

“Have you been taking care of everything, Lucas?” Flint asks.

“Yessir,” Lucas replies, nodding and letting go of his father.

“It's been a while now,” his father then says. “You should go talk with your mom.”

Lucas kneels down in front of the stone and closes his eyes, deep in thought.

Hi, Mom. It has been a while now, hasn't it? I hope you're not mad or anything but coming here too often makes me really sad. I still love you and I miss you a lot.

But I'm doing all right, Mom. I'm gonna be strong and I'm not gonna cry anymore. Not when I've got so many friends and so much to do.

It's gonna be all right, Mom.

Even though I miss you every day, it's gonna be all right.

And I'm gonna take care of your sunflowers for you, so don't you worry about them or me.

I love you, Mom.

Lucas shakes his head a moment, stopping himself from thinking even further and surely prompting himself to cry. When he opens his eyes, his father is gone.

“Dad?”

But it's no use. He's off to the mountains again to search for Claus.
